Ashfall Wardens is the kind of RPG that doesn't hold your hand. You start with two broken characters and slowly build a party, and the turn-based combat rewards planning over button-mashing. Each class has a stance system that changes what their skills do, so the same hero can be a tank or a glass cannon depending on how you read the fight.
The story unfolds through short, well-written scenes between battles. It never drags. We appreciated that you can save anywhere and the whole thing works without a connection, which is rare for an RPG this size.
Some of the later dungeons get genuinely tough and expect you to use buffs and positioning. If you like a bit of strategy baked into your role-playing, this one earns its hours.
